I understand the idea of digital art as the way to make art works in digital forms. It is a very wide topic to discuss. Therefore, I would like to narrow the syllabus to Hong Kong’s digital art development. As a visual studies student, it is welcome to know more about the situation of Hong Kong digital art.
After a series of data research, I found Hung Keung is the most representative of digital artists in Hong Kong. I looked at his art works that recording in his website, it was very amazing. He mainly makes the digital art in form of installation, which dependent on computer software and any other digital equipment. Via his art works, I understand that digital art can be associated with fashion show, product exhibition, etc.
Another common digital art form in Hong Kong is making films, such as artist Lam Wai Kit. Her films were quite experimentally and artistically. Her art works can be seen on her website.
The above art works of both artists let me think about the applicability of the digital forms to make digital art. It is more applicable to make short movies by using camera and mobile phones, which the digital products always contain the function to make videos. However, it is less applicable to use computer software to make digital art. It always asks for professional technical skills to produce new software for a particular idea.
It is no doubt that making digital camera becomes a trend among peoples in Hong Kong, which is proofed by the establishment of You tube in Hong Kong Version. However, I have some questions to ask:
1. How is the development of digital art in Hong Kong right now?
2. What are the difficulties to develop digital art in Hong Kong?
3. Is that good to develop digital art specifically focus on the forms of videos and photos?
